A homeowner discovered my Portland bridge illustrations and reached out to commission two custom metal gates for their property. I created one gate featuring Portland’s bridges and a second inspired by the Seven Wonders of Oregon, translating my illustration style into large-scale architectural pieces.

Designing for laser-cut metal required a different way of thinking than traditional illustration. Every element needed to physically connect to another part of the panel, so negative space, line weight, and structural support became part of the composition itself. I adapted each illustration so the imagery remained recognizable and visually detailed while functioning as a single, connected piece of metal that could be fabricated into a durable gate.
